Jaeger-LeCoultre expands its high-watchmaking narrative with the Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Jumping Date, a contemporary reinterpretation of one of its most celebrated calibres. Rooted in chronometric excellence, the timepiece revisits Calibre 978, an award-winning movement recognised in 2009 for its precision through a newly restructured architecture that emphasises both mechanical clarity and visual depth.

Housed in a 42 mm 18K pink gold case, the watch introduces a more open and expressive dial construction. The reworked layout reveals key elements of the movement, including the one-minute tourbillon, the peripheral jumping date mechanism, and a 24-hour disc that can function as a second time zone. The dial’s layered execution featuring a barleycorn guilloché base beneath translucent blue enamel creates a rich interplay of texture and light, while applied pink gold markers reinforce the watch’s refined aesthetic.

The tourbillon itself reflects Jaeger-LeCoultre’s longstanding pursuit of precision. Composed of 64 components and weighing less than 0.5 grams, it exemplifies the Manufacture’s expertise in reducing mass while enhancing stability. Complementing this is the signature jumping date complication, engineered to preserve visibility of the tourbillon by allowing the date hand to glide seamlessly across the aperture between the 15th and 16th.

The re-engineered Calibre 978 now comprises 305 components, redesigned to enhance visibility and elevate finishing standards. Traditional haute horlogerie techniques including Côtes de Genève, perlage, bevelling, and diamond polishing are executed across more than 30 hand-finished components, with 61 angles meticulously bevelled by hand. The introduction of rounded white gold bridges, crafted using the demanding berçage technique, further refines the movement’s architectural identity.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement reveals a 22K pink gold oscillating weight with an openworked design, allowing an unobstructed view of the tourbillon mechanism. The finishing extends throughout, underscoring the Manufacture’s integrated approach to both technical performance and decorative artistry.
