The Sound Of Thirty Years

Few anniversaries offer an opportunity to reveal the very foundation of a watchmaker's identity. For Parmigiani Fleurier, the celebration of its 30th anniversary is not simply a reflection on the past; it is a reaffirmation of the principles that have guided the Maison since its inception.

To mark this milestone, Parmigiani Fleurier introduces the Carillon Tourbillon, a remarkable creation that combines a four-note chiming mechanism, a tourbillon regulator and an extraordinary level of artisanal craftsmanship. Limited to just five examples worldwide, the watch represents one of the most ambitious expressions of the Maison's philosophy to date.

A Tribute To Michel Parmigiani's Legacy

The Carillon Tourbillon stands as a tribute to founder Michel Parmigiani, whose journey in watchmaking began not with creation, but with restoration.

For decades, Michel Parmigiani immersed himself in the study and restoration of historic clocks, pocket watches, automata and mechanical masterpieces. Through this work, he developed a deep understanding of horological architecture, craftsmanship and mechanical intelligence.

Rather than viewing restoration as an exercise in nostalgia, Parmigiani regarded it as a source of knowledge and innovation. That philosophy continues to define the Maison today and serves as the foundation for the Carillon Tourbillon.

Inspired By A Historic Masterpiece

At the heart of the Carillon Tourbillon's story lies an early nineteenth-century Perrin Frères pocket watch from the renowned Sandoz Collection.

Restored by Parmigiani Fleurier's ateliers in 2000, the historic watch became an important source of inspiration for the anniversary creation. Rather than replicating the original timepiece, the Maison sought to reinterpret its mechanical intelligence, acoustic architect and distinctive visual language within a contemporary wristwatch.

The result is a creation that bridges centuries of watchmaking knowledge while remaining unmistakably modern.

A Four-Note Carillon On The Wrist

One of the defining features of the Carillon Tourbillon is its sophisticated four-note carillon mechanism. Unlike traditional minute repeaters that rely on two gongs, the Carillon Tourbillon employs four separate gongs to create a richer and more nuanced acoustic experience.

The melody consists of:

  • A low-pitched gong for the hours

  • A high-pitched gong for the minutes

  • Two additional notes dedicated to the quarters

Together, these elements produce a distinctive sound signature that transforms the passing of time into a musical performance.

The mechanism is further enhanced by a regulating flywheel that ensures a perfectly controlled cadence from the first strike to the last.

The Serpentine Signature

Visually, the Carillon Tourbillon is immediately recognisable thanks to its four serpentine gongs. Visible beneath the sapphire crystal, the gongs trace elegant curves across the dial, becoming both an acoustic component and a design signature. Inspired directly by the restored Perrin Frères pocket watch, these serpentine forms create a unique architectural presence while reinforcing the connection between sound and design. In the Carillon Tourbillon, acoustics become an integral part of the watch's visual identity.

Morning Blue And Handcrafted Artistry

The dial introduces a special anniversary aesthetic through the use of a hand-hammered white gold surface finished in the Maison's distinctive Morning Blue tone.

Positioned between silver and azure, the colour interacts dynamically with light while preserving the visibility of the chiming architecture beneath.

Each dial is individually hand-worked, ensuring subtle variations that emphasise the human craftsmanship behind every example.

This textured finish continues a decorative theme first explored in Parmigiani Fleurier's recent anniversary creations while adding depth and character to the watch.

A Movement Built For Resonance

Powering the Carillon Tourbillon is a manually wound calibre composed of 456 components. The movement features a sophisticated architecture incorporating three barrels:

  • Two barrels dedicated to the watch's primary timekeeping functions

  • A third barrel reserved exclusively for the chiming mechanism

Together, they provide an exceptional power reserve of up to 12 days, a remarkable achievement for a watch incorporating such a complex striking complication.

The movement's open construction allows collectors to observe the choreography of the striking mechanism as it transforms stored energy into sound. Every component has been finished to an exceptional standard, including Parmigiani Fleurier's distinctive mezzo vibrato decoration, executed entirely by hand.

A Contemporary Expression Of Haute Horlogerie

The white gold case draws inspiration from the Maison's Armoriale collection, featuring vertical gadroons reminiscent of classical architectural columns. Beyond aesthetics, the material selection plays an important acoustic role. White gold provides controlled resonance, allowing the carillon mechanism to deliver a clear and refined sound signature. The visible hammers, glass-box sapphire crystal and contemporary proportions ensure that the watch remains firmly rooted in modern haute horlogerie despite its historical inspirations.

Made For Transmission

Produced in only five examples worldwide, the Carillon Tourbillon is not simply a commemorative watch. It is a statement of the values that have shaped Parmigiani Fleurier for three decades: restoration as a source of innovation, craftsmanship as a form of knowledge and horology as a discipline of transmission. More than an anniversary piece, the Carillon Tourbillon serves as a reminder that the Maison's future continues to be guided by the same principles that inspired its foundation. Thirty years after its creation, Parmigiani Fleurier's voice remains one of the most distinctive in contemporary haute horlogerie and with the Carillon Tourbillon, that voice resonates more clearly than ever.
