The Alternative Horological Alliance (AHA) welcome the addition of two new members: Fears Watch Company of Bristol, England, and Massena LAB of New York, USA. Founded in August 2024 by MING, Fleming, and J.N. Shapiro, the AHA is a collective dedicated to supporting and advancing independent watchmaking beyond traditional structures. It was formed with the goal of fostering cooperation among like-minded brands, encouraging innovation, and strengthening the presence of independents within the global horological community.
As Thomas Fleming of Fleming explains, “The idea of the AHA is not so much of an exclusive club, but rather it’s a forum for smaller, independent watch brands to support each other in our own aims and to collaborate to bring something new to market that we might not have been able to do alone.”The addition of these two new member brands strengthens the AHA’s spirit of collaboration, first demonstrated with the launch of the AHA Tantalum Bracelet expands on the opportunities for pooling resources and furthering each member’s efforts in watchmaking. One such opportunity is hosting joint events–providing collectors the ability to experience different expressions of independent watchmaking and allowing member-brands to host more events than they might individually.
In celebration of the new members, the AHA will host two special collector showcases:
• Singapore: May 3rd–4th at the Delugs boutique, Raffles Hotel
• Hong Kong: May 7th–9th at The Armoury, Pedder Arca
William Massena of Massena LAB commented: “We are proud to announce Massena LAB’s membership to the Alternative Horological Alliance. As collaboration has always been central to our brand, joining AHA feels like a natural step for Massena LAB, and we are excited by the opportunity to further the spirit of cooperation and innovation within this incredible community. We look forward to joining our talented and like-minded new partners MING, Fleming, J.N. Shapiro, and Fears Watch Company at our very first AHA event this May in Singapore.”
Nicholas Bowman-Scargill of Fears Watch Company concludes: “I'm honoured for Fears to join the Alternative Horological Alliance alongside such respected and forward-thinking independent brands. The values at the heart of the AHA—collaboration, openness, and a shared commitment to advancing independent watchmaking—resonate deeply with our own ethos. At Fears, we believe in the strength of community over competition, and being part of this alliance allows us to contribute to a more connected and resilient future for independent horology. We’re excited to work closely with the other member brands, supporting one another and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible outside of traditional industry structures." The Alternative Horological Alliance (AHA) unites like-minded independent watch brands with a shared commitment to championing watchmaking beyond conventional industry structures— embracing a spirit that is open, collaborative, and unapologetically forward-thinking.
