DOXA unveils the “SUB 750T Clive Cussler” special edition.
Twenty years after the release of Sahara, the film adapted from Clive Cussler’s novel, DOXA pays a fresh tribute to the man who helped forge its legacy.
This marks the third chapter in DOXA’s homage to legendary American novelist and explorer Clive Cussler — who would have turned 94 today, and whose adventure novels helped bring global recognition to SUB dive watches.

Clive Cussler would have celebrated his 94th birthday today — and exactly 20 years ago to the day, Sahara premiered: the film adaptation of his novel, with Matthew McConaughey in the role of the charismatic Dirk Pitt. On our hero’s wrist: a SUB dive watch with its iconic orange dial — bold, unmistakable, and impossible to miss. This appearance cemented a bond that had already been forged over decades between the Swiss watchmaker and one of the world’s most widely read adventure writers — a shipwreck hunter, founder of NUMA (the National Underwater and Marine Agency), and a devoted fan of DOXA dive watches.
In fact, Clive Cussler saw two of his best-selling novels adapted for the silver screen: Raise the Titanic! (1980) and Sahara (2005).
Today, inspired by the novel Sahara (on which the 2005 film was based), DOXA celebrates this very special connection with Clive Cussler and his life as an American adventure novelist – who wrote over 85 books (with more than 100 million copies sold) and discovered or surveyed around eighty artifacts with NUMA.
In keeping with the previous editions created to honor Clive Cussler, the SUB 750T marks the third limited series in this tribute. Always a special occasion for DOXA, this edition introduces a new, slimmer case and a lighter design — features never before seen in the 45mm SUB collection.
An Icon Revisited: The SUB 750T – slimmer, lighter, and more wearable than ever
The SUB 750T Clive Cussler remains true to the defining features of the collection, while standing apart with a slimmer, more streamlined profile. Its refreshed silhouette captures the quiet elegance of an adventurer’s wrist — much like the characters brought to life in Cussler’s novels — yet it’s built to withstand the extreme conditions of the deep. More than a timepiece, the SUB 750T Clive Cussler is a symbol of exploration and discovery, evoking the mysteries hidden beneath the waves and the treasures still waiting to be uncovered.
This special edition carries forward the foundational codes of the SUB 750T — a professional-grade 45mm dive watch designed for reliability and robustness, and perfectly suited to deep-sea exploration — while introducing new features:
Stainless steel case (45 mm diameter): a refined design, slimmed down to under 12 mm thick (11.95 mm precisely – almost 2 mm thinner that the first SUB 750T launched 20 years ago), making it more ergonomic and comfortable, and offering excellent balance on the wrist.
Iconic orange dial: a signature DOXA element since the 1960s, made famous by Clive Cussler and his hero Dirk Pitt.
NUMA logo at 7:30: subtle yet full of meaning, it marks the agency founded by Clive Cussler and symbolizes his lifelong passion for maritime discovery.
Date window at 3 o’clock, with numerals 7, 15 and 31 displayed in orange – all protected beneath a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.
Unrivaled legibility: All dive-related indicators (indexes, hands, bezel markers) are, as always, coated with Super-LumiNova® to guarantee perfect readability even in extreme conditions.
As always, all dive-related indicators — indexes, hands, and bezel markers — are coated with Super-LumiNova®, ensuring optimal legibility even in the most extreme conditions.
Clive Cussler’s 94th Birthday — Just 94 Pieces
This edition is strictly limited to 94 numbered timepieces — a symbolic number, marking what would have been Clive Cussler’s 94th birthday on July 15, 2025. More than a commemorative watch, it is a deeply personal tribute made possible by the close bond between the Cussler family — notably his son Dirk, also an author — and DOXA. It also celebrates the spirit of exploration that has long defined the Swiss family-owned watchmaker. With the SUB 750T Clive Cussler, DOXA is not simply revisiting an icon; it is writing a new chapter in its own story — one that lies at the intersection of fiction, adventure, and technical mastery.
A Swiss Automatic Movement Built for Professional Performance
The SUB 750T Clive Cussler is powered by a Swiss automatic mechanical movement, finished with DOXA’s signature decorative details. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), it offers optimal precision with a comfortably extended power reserve of approximately 56 hours. A date window at 3 o’clock and a screw-down crown complete the package. Water-resistant to 75 ATM (750 meters / 2,460 feet), this timepiece affirms its vocation as a professional tool watch — as reliable in diving conditions as it is elegant on land.
The Compass Rose: A Tribute to the Call of the Unknown
On the screw-in case back, a finely engraved compass rose pays homage to a recurring motif in Clive Cussler’s literary and personal universe. More than a navigational instrument, it symbolizes the ever-present call of the open sea — of adventure, exploration, and the pursuit of the unknown.
Each cardinal direction reflects a facet of his life’s work:
North — for constancy and the search for truth
South — for the unknown and the lure of the exotic
East — for beginnings and discovery
West — for the fulfilment of quests and the unveiling of mysteries
An Enduring Partnership with NUMA
In honor of Clive Cussler’s lifelong commitment to maritime heritage, DOXA will donate a portion of the proceeds from this special edition to NUMA — the National Underwater and Marine Agency — which he founded in 1979 to uncover and safeguard historic shipwrecks.
Bold. Creative. Adventurous. That’s how my father approached life. Whether he was tracking down lost shipwrecks or crafting new adventure stories, he always followed a path that was uniquely his own. That spirit is perfectly captured in this DOXA timepiece that bears his name.
The relationship between DOXA and my father was always much more than a simple partnership. It was a shared human and family adventure — one that lives on today through his legacy and the work of NUMA.I am deeply grateful to DOXA for honoring his legacy with a watch that reflects his courage, originality, and passion for exploration.— Dirk Cussler, son of Clive Cussler and author
“Clive Cussler’s novels, celebrated across the globe, offered a natural stage for DOXA watches — positioning them as an essential tool for his heroic character. The iconic SUB dive watch with its orange dial continues to inspire. As we celebrate what would have been Clive Cussler’s 94th birthday, we pay tribute to a man whose stories transported generations of readers, and whose vision continues to shape the spirit of our brand. We extend our heartfelt thanks to his family for the trust and friendship that have united us for decades.” — Jan Edöcs, CEO of DOXA
