Jaeger-LeCoultre Continues Its Tribute to Hokusai

Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces four new Reverso Tribute Enamel timepieces dedicated to the final works from Japanese master Katsushika Hokusai’s celebrated A Tour of the Waterfalls of the Provinces series.

Each of the four new references is produced in a limited edition of 10 pieces and features hand-crafted miniature enamel reproductions of Hokusai’s waterfall artworks on the reverse side of the iconic Reverso case.

The collection pays tribute to the following masterpieces:

  • Rōben Waterfall at Ōyama in Sagami Province

  • Kiyotaki Kannon Waterfall at Sakanoshita on the Tōkaidō

  • Yōrō Waterfall in Mino Province

  • The Falls at Aoigaoka in the Eastern Capital

Celebrating the Artistic Legacy of Hokusai

Hokusai remains one of the most influential figures in Japanese art history, celebrated globally for redefining ukiyo-e through landscapes and natural compositions. His innovative use of Prussian blue pigment transformed Japanese printmaking and profoundly influenced Western Impressionism.

Since 2018, Jaeger-LeCoultre has continuously honoured Hokusai’s legacy through a series of Reverso Tribute Enamel creations inspired by:

  • The Great Wave off Kanagawa

  • Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji

  • A Tour of the Waterfalls of the Provinces

The 2026 novelties complete the Maison’s artistic interpretation of the entire Waterfalls series.

Métiers Rares™ Craftsmanship at the Highest Level

The four new Reverso Tribute Enamel models showcase the expertise of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Métiers Rares™ atelier through a combination of:

  • Miniature enamel painting

  • Hand-guilloché

  • Grand Feu enamelling

  • Microscopic detailing

Each miniature painting requires:

  • A minimum of 14 enamel layers

  • Multiple firings at 800°C

  • Approximately 80 hours of craftsmanship per watch

One of the most remarkable achievements is the faithful reproduction of Hokusai’s original Japanese inscriptions at a microscopic scale while maintaining perfect legibility.

Four Artistic Interpretations of Waterfalls

Rōben Waterfall at Ōyama in Sagami Province

This composition contrasts the immense power of nature with the fragility of humanity, depicting figures gathered beneath the waterfall’s cascading stream.

The dial features:

  • Hand-guilloché barleycorn motif

  • 147 rose-engine engraving passages

  • Light walnut-brown translucent enamel finish

Kiyotaki Kannon Waterfall at Sakanoshita on the Tōkaidō

A gentler and more spiritual interpretation, this artwork presents delicate streams of falling water alongside pilgrims ascending toward the Kannon temple.

Dial details include:

  • Wavy hand-guilloché pattern

  • 198 engraving passages

  • Emerald-green translucent enamel

Yōrō Waterfall in Mino Province

Inspired by the legendary waterfall believed to transform water into sake, this scene balances mythology with the dramatic force of nature.

The dial incorporates:

  • Bamboo-inspired guilloché pattern

  • Olive-green enamel

  • 144 precision engraving passages

The Falls at Aoigaoka in the Eastern Capital

This composition juxtaposes calm and turbulence, capturing a powerful waterfall descending into rough waters while human figures continue their daily routines.

The dial showcases:

  • Herringbone-style guilloché motif

  • Cyan-blue enamel

  • 360 engraving passages

Reverso Tribute Design and Movement

Each model remains faithful to the elegant Reverso Tribute design language with:

  • Faceted baton hour markers

  • Dauphine hands

  • Chemin-de-fer minute track

The watches are powered by the manually wound Calibre 822, featuring:

  • 42-hour power reserve

  • 3 Hz frequency

The movement’s slim architecture preserves the elegant proportions and comfort of the Reverso case.
