Desert-Inspired Elegance

PRESS RELEASE | 858 WORDS | 8 MINUTE READ

First introduced by Swiss brand Perrelet in 2017, the Weekend collection is characterised by its understated, timeless style. Its minimalist design makes it highly versatile and ideal for interpreting ever-changing identities.

Classic colours such as silver, black and blue convey a classic and refined aesthetics. However, when this line embraces trendy shades such as ice blue or green mint, it exudes a more fashionable appeal. When the dial is embellished with aventurine, a semi-precious stone renowned for its sparkling appearance which evokes a starry sky, a touch of preciousness is added to the overall look.

The latest addition to the Weekend collection is a special edition of just 99 pieces of the time-and-date model, designed especially for the Middle East and celebrating the charm of the Arabian desert. And the dial in the warm hue of desert sand, animated by dunes, is the undisputed standout feature of the new Weekend Sand Dunes.

The Dial: Aesthetics in Motion

The highlight of the new Weekend Sand Dunes is undoubtedly the dial, which portrays the breathtaking scenery of the Arabian Desert. Covering an area of 2,330,000 square kilometres (900,000 square miles), the Arabian Desert occupies almost the entire Arabian Peninsula, stretching from Yemen to the Persian Gulf, and from Oman to Jordan and Iraq. It is the fourth largest desert in the world and the largest in Asia.

The desert landscape, a symbol of unspoilt nature, has been the inspiration for the display, which was created by experienced designers and craftsmen from the Bienne-based Maison. Here, golden sand dunes, sculpted by the wind, extend towards the endless horizon. The embossed dunes in Pantone colour 727C — a faded light brown that turns to salmon pink — add dynamism and depth to this timepiece.

The exquisite execution of this intricate pattern endows the Weekend Sand Dunes with a sophisticated and elegant appearance, making it a standout piece in the collection. In keeping with the Arabian theme, the silvered applied hour indices, minutes flange and date in the window at 3 o'clock are displayed in Arabic. As always Super-LumiNova®-coated hands ensure the time can be read clearly in low-light conditions, making the watch a useful tool for those who need to keep track of the time in these situations.

The Case: The Pinnacle of an Essential Design

Weekend Sand Dunes features a round stainless-steel case, the shape most commonly used in watchmaking and one of the most popular with the public, with a diameter of 39 mm and a slim thickness of 9.56 mm. It is characterised by a seamless blend of polished and satin-finished surfaces, creating a refined and sophisticated style. Its dimensions are ideally suited to a timepiece with a timeless, classic appeal.

Water-resistant up to 5 atm, it has a sapphire crystal protecting the dial and a see-through case back that allows a view of the automatic mechanism that powers this new creation. The case back is also embellished with a tampography depicting the dunes of the desert, created using an overlay of black and salmon pink in the Pantone 727C shade.

In addition to this depiction, the case back is stamped with the limited number 01 of 99, the inscription “Middle East Limited Edition” and the model reference.

The Weekend Sand Dunes model comes with a brown calf leather strap with an alligator pattern. It is equipped with a quick-release system and fastens with a stainless-steel pin buckle customized with the Perrelet logo.

At the Heart of the Weekend Sand Dunes

Mechanically, Weekend Sand Dunes with time-and-date functions, is driven by the in-house Perrelet P-321 calibre. Designed and developed entirely in-house, it is manufactured by the sister company Soprod, owned by the Spanish entrepreneur Miguel Rodriguez, the same owner of Perrelet.

Self-winding, it guarantees a 42-hour power reserve when not worn on the wrist and is equipped with a balance-wheel that beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz).

The screw-down caseback features a transparent porthole. Adorned with a depiction of desert dunes — the distinctive feature of this new timepiece — it allows the owner to admire the movement's impeccable finishing, including the circular-grained bridges and the refined oscillating weight, which is decorated with the Bienne Maison logo and mounted on ball bearings.

Availability

Weekend Sand Dunes will be available from May 29th 2025 through authorized retailers in the Middle East.

About Perrelet

Perrelet, Bienne-based Swiss watch company whose roots date back to 1777, is world-renowned for its timepieces with “animated” dials.

Its collections, featuring the iconic and patented Double Rotor and Turbine technologies, pay tribute to founder Abraham-Louis Perrelet, the precursor of the first self-winding movement, and are recognised signature features of the brand.   He is also credited with the creation of the first pedometer in 1780.

As heirs of the genius master watchmaker, every model in Perrelet’s collections is fitted with an in-house automatic movement.

Since 2004, Perrelet has been part of the Festina Group, owned by the Spanish entrepreneur Miguel Rodriguez, who also owns a prestigious watchmaking pole (SOPROD) comprising no less than six production sites. This latter allows the brand total autonomy in the production of its timepieces and consequently maximum freedom of creation.
