Completing the Organica Trilogy
Renaud Tixier completes the Monday Organica trilogy with two new interpretations: Monday Organica Black and Monday Organica Bordeaux. Following the Blue edition introduced the previous year, the two new creations bring the same organic dial composition into two distinct colour worlds. Each edition is limited to seven pieces, making the three-part series a total of three colour expressions, each produced in highly restricted numbers. The trilogy explores the relationship between nature and mechanical watchmaking through a dial whose organic composition conceals the shapes of components from the RVI2023 calibre.
An Organic Landscape Built from Mechanics
At first glance, the Organica dial appears to be an intricate composition inspired by the living world. Closer inspection reveals another layer. The curves forming the design are derived from three components of the RVI2023 calibre, transforming elements of the movement into an artistic landscape. This gives the dial two simultaneous interpretations: an organic composition and a mechanical construction. Neither interpretation completely defines the design; instead, the two exist together.
The Meaning Behind Organica
The name Organica reflects the dual character of the creation. Its immediate association is with organic and botanical forms. Yet its deeper linguistic origin reaches back to the Greek word organon, derived from ergon, meaning work or action. From the same root emerged concepts associated with the organ of the body and the musical organ. For Renaud Tixier, this connection reflects a central idea behind the watch: the relationship between the living world and the exceptional instrument. The Monday Organica therefore treats the movement not merely as a technical mechanism, but as the underlying source of an artistic composition.
From Blossom to Root and Fruit
The three Organica colours form a deliberate progression.
Blue represents the blossom.
Black evokes the root system beneath the earth.
Bordeaux represents the fruit that has matured with time.
The three colours therefore tell a continuous story rather than functioning as independent aesthetic variations. With Black and Bordeaux, the Monday Organica moves from the visible expression of the blossom toward what lies beneath it and what ultimately emerges from it.
Monday Organica Black: The Root
The Monday Organica Black introduces a particularly demanding interpretation of the dial. Black is traditionally associated in watchmaking with materials such as polished onyx, where the colour is supplied by the stone itself. Renaud Tixier instead turns to grand feu enamel, executed by Ateliers Olivier Vaucher. Creating flawless black grand feu enamel is notoriously demanding. Because the surface is visually uncompromising, imperfections such as bubbles or inclusions can become immediately apparent. The absence of engraved decoration further exposes the enamel surface, leaving nowhere for imperfections to hide.
Black as a Symbol of the Hidden Root
The choice of black reinforces the Organica concept. The Blue edition suggested the idea of blossoming, while the Black edition looks beneath the visible surface toward the root system of a plant. Roots remain hidden beneath the earth, yet they provide the foundation for everything that eventually appears above ground. The organic dial therefore acquires another interpretation: its intricate forms can be read as a visual representation of the unseen structures that sustain life. The Black edition is paired with a cool white platinum case, creating a restrained contrast between the dark dial and precious-metal architecture.
Monday Organica Bordeaux: The Mature Fruit
The Monday Organica Bordeaux takes the story in another direction. Its deep Bordeaux tone represents the fruit after it has been given time to mature. The colour also recalls the sediment, or lees, settling at the bottom of a wine cask, the part associated with richness, patience, and gradual transformation. The symbolism is therefore closely connected to the passage of time. The Bordeaux dial is housed in a 5N rose gold case, whose warm tone complements and intensifies the dial’s deep colour.
Four Hands Behind the Creation
The Monday Organica continues a collaboration between Dominique Renaud and Ateliers Olivier Vaucher. Ateliers Olivier Vaucher brings its expertise in métiers d’art and high-end dial decoration, while Dominique Renaud contributes the mechanical and conceptual foundation of the creation. The result is a dialogue between mechanical watchmaking and artisanal decoration, with the dial functioning as the meeting point between the two disciplines.
